Shakelton and the crew have been shipwrecked on the continent of Antarctica. The only animal life there are penguins, a few sea birds, seals, some fish under the icepack. The was crushed by the frozen water and eventually sank. Before it sank Shakelton ordered the crew to abandon ship and remove what supplies they could. Why would they select whiskey and brandy?

Later, President Franklin Roosevelt clarified that Thanksgiving should always be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of the month to encourage earlier holiday shopping, never on the occasional fifth Thursday.
